On a September day in 1454 in the hillside town of Marostica near Venice, two men sat down to play a game of chess to win the hand of the Lord's daughter. What was different was that it was held in public using living people as the chess pieces. Mix the drama with wonderful medieval music and a supporting cast of costumed dancers and nobles and you've got an event which is truly special. As an incentive, you can join in the World's Longest Pasta Lunch at the same venue starting at 12.30pm.
